Donald Trump has cast his vote in the US presidential election as the race for the White House enters the final throes.

The US president voted in West Palm Beach, Florida, which is near his private Mar-a-Lago club.

After casting his ballot, he told reporters: "I voted for a guy named Trump."

Trump used to vote in New York but changed his residency to Florida last year.

Donald Trump voted for himself

President Donald Trump voted in his adopted home of Florida before hitting the campaign trail for rallies in three swing states on Saturday.

After casting his ballot, he joked with reporters saying: "I voted for a guy named Trump."

Trump cast his ballot at a library in West Palm Beach, near his Mar-a-Lago resort, after switching his permanent residence and voter registration last year from New York to Florida, a must-win battleground for his re-election bid.

About 54.2 million Americans have already cast early ballots, a pace that could lead to the highest voter turnout in more than a century, according to data from the US Elections Project.

Many states have expanded in-person early voting and mail-in ballots as a safer way to vote during the pandemic.

'Dark winter ahead' - Biden

Joe Biden warned Americans that it is going to be a "dark winter" as the US continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic.

Following the final presidential debate, the Democratic nominee said President Trump has "no clear plan" to tackle the crisis.

More than 8.8 million Americans have contracted Covid-19 and 230,068 have died after becoming infected with it.

Referring to Trump, Biden added: "And by the way, this is the same fellow who told you this was going to end by Easter last time.

"This is the same fellow who said, 'Don't worry, we're going to end it this by the summer.' We're about to go into a dark winter

"A dark winter, and he has no clear plan and there's no prospect that there's going to be a vaccine available for the majority of the American people before the middle of next year."

Obama urges people to vote

Barack Obama delivered a campaign speech on Wednesday night to support Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

The former US president said during a 30-minute speech at Lincoln Financial Field: "I am asking you to remember what this country can be.

"What it is like when we treat each other with respect and dignity. What is it is like when our elected officials actually behave responsibly."

He also encouraged Democrats to turn out and vote.

He said: “We can’t just imagine a better future. We’ve got to fight for it. We’ve got to out-hustle the other side.

"We have to outwork the other side. We have to vote like never before.”

Trump says it is 'foolish' to carry out Covid-19 tests

Donald Trump has said it is "foolish" to test people for coronavirus because it makes the number of cases in the country go up.

During a campaign rally in Lumberton, North Carolina, he said: "You know why we have cases? It’s because we test so much.

"In a lot of ways it’s good, and in a lot of ways it’s foolish."

He added: "If we tested half, cases would be half."

His comments came after it was reported that 83,000 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the US on Friday.
