Ghoulish Halloween food to buy and make for a party at home this year

This year’s Halloween is set to be a very different affair, with county-wide restrictions being brought in, traditional activities like parties and trick or treating look to be off the cards.

Household mixing is now banned and the Lancashire Resilience Forum is advising against visiting others' driveways to pick up sweets.

So, without typical events, people will be looking at alternative ways to make the most of the occasion.

LancsLive has pulled together a list of spooky-themed foods you can make at home.

Each of these recipes will work on their own, but if you're looking for a party-style buffet you can cook up a storm at home and make a spread.

Halloween Cupcakes

This recipe from BBC Good Food is great for you and your kids to do together.

The quantities as they are on the website will yield 22 creepy little cupcakes.

Add a twist to a classic recipe by adding spooky decorations such as jelly fangs and googly eyes.

The ingredients call for nothing out of the ordinary, apart from maybe black food colouring.

Not only will these taste great, but it's something to do to keep your little monsters entertained this half-term.

Bloody Mary Syringes

Something for the adults, this recipe from delish.com is great for a grown-up Halloween gathering and no Halloween party is complete without blood.

There is nothing particular scary about the recipe itself, unless you count Tabasco.

But the real spooky flair comes from the presentation, for which you will need plastic syringes - much like the ones you might find for measuring out medicine.

Create Your Own Skeletons, Bats and Tombstone cakes

Tesco have released a range of little baking kits which help you make your own little treats easily.

The range features skeletons, bat cupcakes and tombstone cupcakes, all priced at £2!

These are great value and allow for kids to get a bit creative without all the mess to clear up afterwards.

Grim Reaper Pizza

Morrisons is now selling an ultra-spicy pizza made with the hottest chilli peppers in the world.

The supermarket has launched the Grim Reaper pizza just in time for Halloween.

Those who dare can head to their nearest Morrisons pizza counter in store and pick one up for £3.89.

The fiery pizza is made with spicy hot sauce with blended Carolina Reaper peppers and black garlic topped with hot nduja sausage, spicy chicken and hot cheese.

Carolina Reapers measure over 2 million units on the Scoville heat scale - that's 440 times hotter than a jalapeno.

Morrisons' pizza is so spicy that it comes with its own heat warning.

Witches' Broomsticks

This idea from Morrisons takes two common snacks and turns them into simple Halloween-themed finger food.

There really isn't a great deal of preparation for this, however the result will look great on a buffet table.

The only downside it is may not be suitable for those who hate Marmite but you can't please everyone.

Meringue Monsters

Meringues are a great dessert for a lighter option. Due to the lack of flour or butter, they tend to be much lighter in calories than their cake and chocolate counterparts.

They are also pretty adaptable meaning you can mold them into whichever shape you like and add food colouring for variation.

This recipe for meringue monsters is quick and easy to make, which is handy especially if you are working with children or have less time on your hands.
