Blackburn with Darwen recorded 200 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to new figures.

Nearly a quarter of all new infections in Lancashire were recorded in the borough, with Blackpool and Preston also recording at least 100 new cases.

Public Health England data released this evening shows that the total number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic has now risen to 38,002.

The latest area by area infection rates will be published later this evening

The new case data includes people being tested both through 'Pillar 1' - which is in hospitals - and Pillar 2 - which is drive-through test centres and swabs sent by post.

The number of daily confirmed cases of coronavirus by Lancashire borough as of Monday, October 26:

  • Blackburn with Darwen: 5,590 (+200), 3,600.6 per 100,000

  • Blackpool: 3,192 (+105), 2,289.1 per 100,000
  • Burnley: 2,966 (+43), 3,335.6 per 100,000
  • Chorley: 2,198 (+55), 1,859.3 per 100,000
  • Fylde: 1,454 (+49), 1,800 per 100,000
  • Hyndburn: 2,178 (+61), 2,687.5 per 100,000
  • Lancaster: 2,845 (+82), 1,948.1 per 100,000
  • Pendle: 2,911 (+55), 3,160.3 per 100,000
  • Preston: 4,466 (+104), 3,120.1 per 100,000
  • Ribble Valley: 1,197 (+42), 1,965.9 per 100,000
  • Rossendale: 1,909 (+57), 2,670.6 per 100,000
  • South Ribble: 2,164 (+57), 1,953.3 per 100,000
  • West Lancashire: 2,918 (+63) 2,552.8 per 100,000
  • Wyre: 2,014 (+59), 1,796.8 per 100,000

The Government said that, as of 9am on Monday, there had been a further 20,890 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 894,690.

A further 102 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday. This brings the UK total to 44,998.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 59,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

LancsLive reported earlier how 14 new coronavirus deaths were recorded at Lancashire hospitals, including seven at Blackpool.
