Barrow-in-Furness and Copeland recorded the biggest daily rise in new coronavirus cases across Cumbria, according to new figures.

A further 28 people tested positive for the virus in both areas in the last 24 hours.

Public Health England said there were also 20 new cases in Carlisle, 19 new cases in Allerdale and 16 new cases in South Lakeland.

Cumbria's coronavirus cases tally rose overall by 116 since yesterday, bringing it to 6,141 since the start of the pandemic.

The case data includes people being tested both through 'Pillar 1' - which is in hospitals - and Pillar 2 - which is drive-through test centres and swabs sent by post.

The number of daily confirmed cases of coronavirus by Cumbria borough as of Monday, October 26:

  • Allerdale: 792 (+19), 810.1 per 100,000
  • Barrow-in-Furness: 1,453 (+28), 2,167.1 per 100,000
  • Carlisle: 1,479 (+20), 1,360.9 per 100,0007
  • Copeland: 672 (+28), 985.6 per 100,000
  • Eden: 509 (+5), 955.8 per 100,000
  • South Lakeland: 1,236 (+16) 1,176.2 per 100,000

The Government said that, as of 9am on Monday, there had been a further 20,890 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 894,690.

A further 102 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday. This brings the UK total to 44,998.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 59,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
