The Turkey Creek Village Council, at the meeting held Tuesday, October 20, adopted a resolution allowing for the application of a capital outlay grant.
Mayor Phillip Cavins explained the grant would be used to replace the ground water storage tank in Bayou Chicot and replace it with a 400,000 gallon elevated water tower.
The mayor said the new tower would be connected to the existing one with a pipeline so both towers can be equalized. The new tower would also be equipped with software to monitor water quality and power outages.
The village is working with State Representative Rhonda Butler and State Senator Heather Cloud to get additional funding on top of the $1.6 million that is requested in the grant application.
In other business, Chief of Police Shawn Eckhart reported different law enforcement agencies have recently donated approximately five police units and supplies such as lights, sirens, and siren boxes to the village’s police department. “That is helping us out to expand and make sure the officers are in safe vehicles,” the chief said.
