A further 200 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Surrey, according to data released today (Monday, October 26).

Public Health England figures show there have now been 10,062 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the county since the start of the pandemic.

No new Covid-19 related deaths have been reported at hospitals in Surrey.

The biggest increase in cases overnight was in Guildford, where 36 new infections were recorded, followed by Waverley with a rise of 24.

Nationally, a further 20,890 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the UK in the last 24 hours. It brings the total number of cases to 894,690.

The Government also said a further 102 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19. This brings the UK total to 44,998.

Meanwhile, doctors have raised concerns about the prospect of people injuring themselves with DIY firework displays.

Many traditional Bonfire Night displays have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Medics who deal with reconstructive surgery and those who care for patients with hand and burn injuries have urged people to think twice before purchasing fireworks for use at home.
