5 dead during idol immersion in West Bengal's Murshidabad

Five people died during immersion of Goddess Durga idols at Beldanga in Murshidabad district on Monday. Six people went missing from two boats as the boats were supposed to move apart to facilitate the immersion. The six missing people were trapped below the structure of the idol.

KOLKATA: Five people died during immersion of Goddess Durga idols at Beldanga in Murshidabad district on Monday.
Six people went missing from two boats as the boats were supposed to move apart to facilitate the immersion. The six missing people were trapped below the structure of the idol.
Soon, the police and rescuers started a search operation and four bodies were traced. Later, another body was fished out.
The police are still looking for one remaining body.
The tragedy in the area created gloom on Dussehra. The locals had gone to attend the immersion ceremony hosted in the house of Hazras.
The five bodies were sent for autopsy.
