Migrant worker sentenced to death for killing nine in Warangal

HYDERABAD: A local court in Warangal convicted gunny bag manufacturing unit worker Sanjay Kumar Yadav for murdering nine persons and sentenced him to death on Wednesday.
Sanjay, 24, mixed sleeping pills in the food items consumed by the nine victims who attended a birthday party at Gorrekunta village in Geesukonda mandal of Warangal on May 20 night. After the victims fell unconscious, he pushed them one by one into adjoining well.

The victims were, Sanjay's colleague, Maqsood Alam, 50, his wife Nisha Alam, 45, their sons Shabaz Alam, 21, Sohail Alam, 20, Maqsood's daughter Bushra Alam, 22, Bushra’s three-year-old son, co-workers from Bihar, Sriram, 35, Shyam, 40 and a driver Shakeel, 40, of Tripura.
During the investigation police found out that Sanjay had an affair with Nisha Alam's niece Rafeeqa, who was living with her three children in Warangal, preparing food for gunny bag unit workers. Sanjay promised to marry Rafeeqa but later started postponing it. Subsequently Rafeeqa started suspecting that Sanjay was eyeing her teenage daughter and confronted him.
To fool Rafeeqa, Sanjay promised to marry her and in the guise of introducing her to his family in West Bengal, made her board a train with him on March 2020. After the train reached Brahmanagudem village in West Godavari district, Sanjay gave Rafeeqa, butter milk mixed with sleeping pills powder. After she fell asleep, Sanjay killed her by pushing her out of the train.
After killing Rafeeqa Sanjay returned to Warangal alone and started to avoid Nisha Alam. Suspecting foul play, Nisha threatened to lodge a police complaint and Sanjay planned to eliminate Nisha and her family.
As per the plan, he mixed sleeping pills powder in the food consumed by Maqsood's family members and co-workers on May 20 night during the birthday party of Shabaz and after they fell unconscious, he pushed them into an abandoned well adjoining Sai Datta gunny bags unit.
Police filed a chargesheet against Sanjay in June and after the trial, the local court sentenced Sanjay to death on Wednesday.
