Congress party weakened the society by resorting to divisive politics: Sarbananda Sonowal

Guwahati: Assam chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday said that Congress party, which was in power for majority portion of the post-Independence period, weakened the society by resorting to divisive politics.
Sonowal conferred ‘Bengmora Sammanay Bota’ in Dibrugarh. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the previous State governments did not do anything substantial for the overall development of all sections of the people of the state. Even the previous governments did not take step to acknowledge the great role played by the great personalities of different ethnic communities. However, the present State government took decisive steps to honour the role played by the leaders of different ethnic communities.

He added that for the preservation of spiritual, historical and cultural heritage of the state, government announced grants for satras, namghars, devalayas etc. He also said that for establishing a government free from corruption, terrorism, illegal migration and pollution, State government has been working day in and day out. He said that an assessment of the four and half year performance of the present government, indeed proved the State government’s commitment in this regard.

Sonowal remarked that Congress party, which was in power for majority portion of the post-Independence period, weakened the society by resorting to divisive politics. On the other hand, the present state government has strived to strengthen the bond of unity among all sections of the society while working resolutely towards fulfilling the promises with which it came to power, he said.

The Chief Minister asserted that the youths of the state have been able to excel in various sectors and agriculture sector has seen tremendous growth as a result of the sincere and unprecedented efforts taken up by the present state government.
