KARWAR: The election for the West Graduate Constituency was peaceful in
Uttara Kannada with 71% polling. For the first time in the history of the election of graduate constituency, long lines were seen outside polling booths in the district. There is a fierce contest between SV Sankanuru of BJP, Kuberappa of Congress and Basavaraj Gurikar, an independent candidate.
There was a verbal clash between Congress and BJP workers outside a booth in Ankola when local BJP MLA Roopali Naik entered the compound of the Tahshildar office where the polling centre was set up. Congress workers objected to it and said authorities were not allowing them inside the compound while BJP workers were allowed. Senior officials rushed to the spot to restore calm. Barring this incident, the election was peaceful in the entire district.
