    Assam police constitutes SIT to probe entrance test scam

    The topper of the exam, his father and three others have been arrested and sent to a five day police remand by Guwahati’s Chief Judicial Magistrate court on Thursday. The accused had scored 99.8 percent in the exam. They have been charged under section - 120(B) (Criminal conspiracy), 419 ( unlawful assembly), 420( cheating), 406 ( criminal breach of trust) of IPC and section 66D of the IT Act.

    GUWAHATI: Assam police has constituted a special investigating team to probe a case where a proxy was allegedly used to write Joint Entrance Exam (Mains) in Assam.

    The topper of the exam, his father and three others have been arrested and sent to a five day police remand by Guwahati’s Chief Judicial Magistrate court on Thursday.

    The accused had scored 99.8 percent in the exam. They have been charged under section - 120(B) (Criminal conspiracy), 419 ( unlawful assembly), 420( cheating), 406 ( criminal breach of trust) of IPC and section 66D of the IT Act.

    Deputy Commissioner of police, West police district Guwahati stated, “SIT has been constituted in view of the gravity of the offence and for the purpose of proper and speedy investigation. The SIT will report progress of investigation to the undersigned on a daily basis and complete the investigation within stipulated time.”

    Guwahati Police commissioner MP Gupta said, “one the day of the exam the proxy candidate wrote the exam , we are looking for a few more people, we are looking at all angles, this was done in conspiracy with insiders."

    The matter came to light after a phone call recording and WhatsApp chat - in which the accused allegedly talks about having used dubious means to top the exam surfaced on social media. Accordingly a police complaint was filed.

    The Assam Police have informed the National Testing Agency (NTA) about the incident.
