Meet the ‘Spokes Kids’ for United Way Trumbull

TRUMBULL COUNTY, Ohio — Two county students will have a new role as “spokes kids” for the United Way of Trumbull County.

Bailey Tolios, Lakeview, and Cadence Treich, Champion, were selected after tryouts were held last summer before a panel of judges. Tryouts were open to students participating in Kent Trumbull Theatre‘s Youth Acting Workshop.

“Bailey stood out because of her presence and maturity, and Cadence was chosen for her enthusiasm and fearlessness,” said Christine Cope, director of development and marketing for the United Way. “Together, they will make great ambassadors for United Way of Trumbull County.”

Tolios is currently featured in a short video that can be seen at UnitedWayTrumbull.org/spokeskids-2020-21 where she breaks down how the organization connects donors, volunteers, advocates, partner agencies, counties and governments to create an “awesome” community.

When asked why she wanted to help Tolios said, “Volunteering and helping other others not only helps them, it helps us too. It makes us feel good!”

Treich wanted to be a part of this new effort because she wants “to encourage people to help out our community,” she said. Along with Tolios, she will be volunteering and promoting the United Way in upcoming videos, marketing materials and on social media to showcase the work being done, particularly for children and families.

Another spokes kid will be announced by the end of the year to work alongside Tolios and Treich for this high-profile project. Initially, the project was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, county residents can expect to see a lot from the girls in the upcoming months, both virtually and in-person when circumstances allow.

In addition to their duties as spokes kids, the projects includes mentoring opportunities for the girls while giving them an opportunity to set an example for other young people in the community as they showcase their skills, talents and enthusiasm to make a difference in Trumbull County.
