Dallas man sold 19-year-old as sex slave to South Carolinian who wanted to brand her, feds allege

A Dallas man sold a 19-year-old woman for $5,000 as a sex slave to a South Carolina man who had a dungeon at his home and planned to brand her, federal authorities allege in court records.

Alfonso Orozco Juarez, 35, was arrested Tuesday at his west Oak Cliff home and faces one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking.

His attorney, Ezekiel Tyson, said he wanted to see “what actual evidence they have of criminal activity by my client.” Sex-slave relationships can be “very consensual” and aren’t necessarily criminal, he said, adding that there are plenty of activities that don’t cross the line into criminality, such as having someone agree to clean your house in the nude.

According to a criminal complaint, Juarez met the victim, a New Mexico resident, on a social-networking site while she was in Dallas visiting her boyfriend last summer. He asked if she wanted to make some money, and he later visited her at her motel room.

The woman told investigators that Juarez gave her methamphetamine and became abusive, repeatedly hitting her on the head with a handgun, authorities said.

After that first meeting, Juarez paid for the woman to fly back to Dallas several times and arranged for her to perform commercial sex acts, she said, according to court records. She allegedly was paid with money and drugs.

The woman said she kept coming back for the drugs and because Juarez threatened her and her family, according to court records. But he became more abusive, she said, at one point holding an unloaded gun to her head and pulling the trigger, according to court records.

In September 2019, Juarez advertised the woman as a sex slave for sale on a fetish website, authorities said. A user going by the name “The Darkest Lord” replied to him, offering $5,000, according to court records.

Authorities said they obtained text messages in which Juarez and that man — later identified as 66-year-old Robert Gene Hubert of Roebuck, S.C. — arranged the transaction.

According to court documents, Juarez said that homeless women were “willing to do anything” for good food and shelter. “My dream is to have a house full of service sex slaves and like a pet adoption I will find them good homes,” he allegedly wrote.

He referred to the woman as “the property” and said she was completely dependent on him, according to the documents.

“I will take the slave,” Hubert said, offering a $50 deposit, the complaint says.

A short time later, Juarez took the woman to a gas station near his home and told her she would be going to South Carolina with a man and needed to “obey him,” according to the complaint. She said she saw Hubert, whom she described as a “biker dude” with tattoos and an eye patch, give Juarez $5,000 in cash.

The woman said Hubert put a metal collar around her neck once she was in his truck and told her he wanted to brand her buttocks with a logo, according to the complaint. There was another woman with Hubert, she told authorities, and when they got to Hubert’s home, she saw bruises, burn marks and cuts all over the woman’s body, as well as a brand on her hip.

Hubert’s home had a dungeon, the victim told authorities, and she and the other woman were required to be naked at all times. In text messages to Juarez, she said that Hubert had some “freaky” fetishes and that she was afraid he would hurt her.

The victim said she begged Hubert to let her leave, but he demanded to be reimbursed, according to court records.

Around that time, Hubert texted Juarez asking what was going on, according to the court documents.

“I don’t know what’s happening or what problems your having but you took her as is,” Juarez allegedly replied.

The woman eventually called her parents, and her father persuaded the man to let her take a bus back to Dallas. She then returned to New Mexico, and federal authorities began investigating in June after receiving a tip from a psychiatric hospital in Albuquerque where the woman was a patient.

The woman’s father provided authorities text messages he had exchanged with Hubert, including an image of a contract for the woman’s sale between Juarez and Hubert.

Hubert was arrested last week in South Carolina, also on a charge of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking.

Both men remain in custody and face up to life in prison if convicted. Hubert did not have an attorney listed in court records.

“This victim endured horrific abuse at the hands of these defendants,” U.S. Attorney Erin Nealy Cox said in a written statement. “It’s unthinkable and, frankly, difficult to learn that this type of thing is happening in our district.”
