ED nabs Kerala CPM secretary's son in Bengaluru drugs case

The Enforcement Directorate, Bengaluru, on Thursday arrested Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of former Kerala home minister and CPM secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, under the Prevention of Money-Laundering Act for alleged financial links with a Bengaluru drug dealer apprehended by the Narcotics Control Bureau in August. The 42-year-old was produced before a Bengaluru court which sent him to ED custody till Monday.

BENGALURU: The Enforcement Directorate, Bengaluru, on Thursday arrested Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of former Kerala home minister and CPM secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, under the Prevention of Money-Laundering Act for alleged financial links with a Bengaluru drug dealer apprehended by the Narcotics Control Bureau in August. The 42-year-old was produced before a Bengaluru court which sent him to ED custody till Monday.

Bineesh to be grilled about aide’s money transactions
Bineesh, 42, youngest son of the Kerala senior politician, reached the ED office in Shantinagar around 10am Thursday as the central agency had summoned him for questioning for the second time. He had also appeared before them on October 6.
ED sleuths arrested him and around 2.30pm, a team of officers escorted him to the city civil court complex where he was presented before Special (in-charge) judge KS Manu. Special public prosecutor P Prasanna Kumar requested for custody of Bineesh to question him on money transactions. The judge granted custody till evening of November 2.
According to ED sources, Bineesh’s long-time aide and Kochi resident Mohammed Anoop, 38, received over Rs 50 lakh in his bank account before NCB arrested him from a service apartment in Kalyan Nagar here on August 24, 2020 for drug peddling. Investigators unearthed frequent phone conversations between the duo.
Money trail?
During questioning on October 6, Bineesh claimed he had advised some acquaintances to transfer lakhs of rupees to Anoop’s bank account to support his eatery business in Bengaluru.
