A city civil and sessions court on Thursday sentenced 12 persons, including a former corpoator and her husband, to life imprisonment for killing RTI activist Lingaraju in 2012 in Chamarajpet.

BENGALURU: A city civil and sessions court on Thursday sentenced 12 persons, including a former corpoator and her husband, to life imprisonment for killing RTI activist Lingaraju in 2012 in Chamarajpet.
On Wednesday, Rangaswamy, R Shankar, Raghavendra, Chandra, Shankar, Umashankar, Velu, C Govindaraj, Loganath, Zaheer, Suresh and former corporator Gowramma were convicted for the murder.
Special Public Prosecutor Ashok Nayak told TOI that they convicted under Indian Penal Code Section 302.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 each.
On November 20, 2012, Lingaraju was hacked to death by three men in front of his wife and children near his house in Chamarajpet. Then Azad Nagar Congress corporator Gowramma's husband Govindaraj had hired seven contract killers to eliminate Lingaraju as he had exposed the corporator's corruption. The Lokayukta had raided Gowramma and Govindaraju's residence.
