GUWAHATI: The state unit of BJP, while coming down heavily on opposition Congress and other political parties, said it is committed to eliminating the “evil forces” that always stand against the interest of the state and the greater Assamese community.
“BJP is ready to give a tough reply to Congress, All India United Democratic Front and other political parties through its performance in the upcoming assembly elections to be held early next year,” state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass said.

Accusing Congress and other political parties of doing politics just to fulfill their vested interests, Dass added, “They have not done anything for the secure future of the indigenous people of the state.” He also highlighted various steps taken by the BJP-led government for the indigenous people of the state.
Urging party workers to inform people about the initiatives taken for the welfare of the people by the BJP government, Dass said, “The workers have been urged to inform the people about the exemplary initiatives taken for the welfare of the people in the last four years of rule in the state. This will give a momentum in achieving the party’s goal.”
Dass, who started the party’s 59-day long statewide campaign, added that the strong organizational set up at each and every level of the state will help the party in getting absolute majority in the upcoming elections.
In the meanwhile, North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener and state health and finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said in Dhemaji district that the coming assembly elections will be the ‘modern battle of Saraighat’.
It may be mentioned that the battle of Saraighat was fought in 1671 between the Mughals and the Ahoms led by Lachit Borphukan. The Ahom army had defeated the Mughals.
