South African batting star AB de Villiers has come up with a new music video in collaboration with singer-songwriter Karen Zoid and Ndlovu Youth Choir in a bid to inspire and give hope to the African nation after what has been a difficult year.

AB de Villiers, who is not new to the music industry, having sung a song in a bi-lingual music album in 2010, said he joined hands with Karen Zoid to put out a positive message. Incidentally, de Villiers collaborated with the singer-songwriter as early as 2019 and added that he was obviously unaware of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, Chris Morris, Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada also feature in the music video which was released by the cricketer on Friday. Notably, de Villiers and his RCB teammates, including Kohli, can be seen mouthing lines from their hotel rooms in the UAE.

The song titled 'The Flame' is aimed at celebrating the human spirit. "We're all so different, but united we form the perfect picture!" de Villiers wrote while unveiling the song on social media. De Villiers also thanked his RCB teammates Kohli, Chahal, Morris and Rabada and Norje for 'leaving your comfort zones' and featuring in the music video.

"Karen Zoid and I spent time together in 2019 to write music," de Villiers was quoted as saying by News24.

"We want to inspire, to carry a message and help make a difference in the lives of people. During our writing sessions, I spent a lot of time thinking about the challenges I had faced as a cricket player and the parallels with everyday life. At the time we had no idea Covid was on the cards but regardless, we felt the world needed a positive message," de Villiers said.

AB de Villiers is currently in the UAE, representing RCB at IPL 2020. The South African star, who retired from international cricket in 2018, has often spoken about his equation with Virat Kohli. It was no surprise to see the India cricket team captain doing his bit to help de Villiers spread the message of positivity to the world.

AB de Villiers is having a great on the field as well. The RCB star has scored 339 runs from 12 matches at a strike rate of over 170.

With de Villiers and Virat Kohli contributing consistency and their bowling unit stepping up, RCB are on the verge of making it to the play-offs. RCB are at the 2nd spot with 14 points from 12 matches.
