The state Board of Nursing has temporarily suspended a Manchester nursing program while an investigation is conducted.
Karen Potter was an instructor at the Salter School of Nursing for a year. She said the school was bought by a new owner, and the name was changed to the American School of Nursing. She resigned on Oct. 15.
"A lot of people are moving forward," she said. "I can't talk about anyone specifically. I just hope we can continue at some point."
She and others are now finding out the school's nursing program has been suspended by the state Board of Nursing. Board officials said they couldn't release many details about the investigation.
"There was an emergency suspension of the American School of Nursing program, which generally means there was an allegation that, if true, could impact the public safety, welfare or health of constituents," said Lindsey Courtney, of the Office of Professional Licensure and Certification.
The board will hold a hearing to address the allegation against the school.
On the school's website, a message to students from the owner, Trigram Education Partners, states that the board's concerns relate to the recent change of ownership and that Trigram will challenge the decision at an upcoming hearing.
"Trigram is confident in their ability to provide sufficient evidence to demonstrate compliance with Board of Nursing standards," the company said in the statement.
In the meantime, more than a dozen instructors and about 90 students are being affected, with some weeks away from graduation.
"It could be that they find a new program," Courtney said. "It could be that they already meet the qualifications to sit for the examination."
Officials with the Board of Nursing couldn't say exactly when the hearing will take place, but they said it should happen next month.
