COMMERCIAL STREET IN MANCHESTER. RIGHT NOW, THERE ARE TEACHERS WITHOUT JOBS AND STUDENTS WHO CAN’T GRADUATE. KAREN POTTER WORKED FOR THE SALTER SCHOOL OF NURSING IN MANCHESTER FOR A YEAR. SHE SAYS THEY WERE BOUGHT BY A NEW OWNER AND THEIR NAME WAS CHANGED TO THE AMERICAN SCHOOL OF NURSING. SHE RESIGNED. KAREN: WE WERE LIKE A FAMILY THERE, AND I DO MISS THEM. I HOPE THAT WE CAN CONTINUE AT SOME POINT. KRISTEN: SHE AND OTHERS FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A SUSPENSION. NOW THE BOARD OF NURSING IS INVESTIGATING. LINDSEY: THERE WAS AN EMERGENCY SUSPENSION OF THE AMERIC SCHOOL OF NURSING PROGRAM, WHICH GENERALLY MEANS THERE WAS AN ALLEGATION THAT, IF TRUE, COULD IMPACT THE PUBLIC SAFETY, WELFARE, OR HEALTH OF CONSTITUENTS. KRISTEN: THE BOARD WILL HOLD A HEARING TO ADDRESS THE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST THE SCHOOL ON THE SCHOOL’S WEBSITE, THERE IS MESSAGE TO STUDENTS. THE OWNERS SAY THE BOARD’S CONCERNS RELATE TO THE RECENT CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP AND THAT TRIGRAM WILL CHALLENGE THIS DECISION AT THE UPCOMING HEARING . THEY GO ONTO SAY TRIGRAM IS, QUOTE, "CONFIDENT IN THEIR ABILITY TO PROVIDE SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE TO DEMONSTRATE COMPLIANCE WITH BOARD OF NURSI STANDARDS." MEANTIME, MORE THAN A DOZEN INSTRUCTORS AND ROUGHLY NINETY STUDENTS ARE BEING IMPACTED, SOME WEEKS AWAY FROM GRADUATION. THE BOARD HOPES TO HELP THESE NURSING STUDENTS MOVE FORWARD. LINDSEY: IT COULD BE THAT THEY FIND A NEW PROGRAM. IT COULD BE THAT MAYBE THEY ALREADY MEET THE QUALIFICATIONS TO SIT FOR THE EXAMINATION. Board officials said they couldn't release many details about the investigation."There was an emergency suspension of the American School of Nursing program, which generally means there was an allegation that, if true, could impact the public safety, welfare or health of constituents," said Lindsey Courtney, of the Office of Professional Licensure and Certification.The board will hold a hearing to address the allegation against the school.On the school's website, a message to students from the owner, Trigram Education Partners, states that the board's concerns relate to the recent change of ownership and that Trigram will challenge the decision at an upcoming hearing."Trigram is confident in their ability to provide sufficient evidence to demonstrate compliance with Board of Nursing standards," the company said in the statement.In the meantime, more than a dozen instructors and about 90 students are being affected, with some weeks away from graduation."It could be that they find a new program," Courtney said. "It could be that they already meet the qualifications to sit for the examination."Officials with the Board of Nursing couldn't say exactly when the hearing will take place, but they said it should happen next month.
