An E-7A Wedgetail will conduct a flyover of the Australian War Memorial and Anzac Parade this evening (2 November) in honour of Australian Defence Force members who fought in the Vietnam War.
The flypast will occur at around 5:25 pm, subject to weather conditions and operational requirements, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of two airmen who lost their lives during the Vietnam conflict.
A commemorative service will be held prior to the event, acknowledging their service and sacrifice.
The remains of pilot Flying Officer Michael Herbert (aged 24) and navigator Pilot Officer Robert Carver (24) were found in the wreckage of their crashed bomber along the Vietnam and Laos border in 2009.
They were the last two Australian servicemen who were listed as missing in action after the Vietnam War.
More than 60,000 Australians were deployed to Vietnam between 1962 and 1975. A total of 521 Australians were killed during the war.
