PATNA: Police arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in post-poll violence after they failed to rig polling at booth number 60 in village
Bishanpur of
Babubarhi assembly seat in
Madhubani on late Saturday evening soon after the final phase of polling ended.
The irate mob also pelted stones on security personnel. Later they torched a private SUV allotted for movement of Border Security Force (BSF) personnel which was parked just outside the booth and badly damaged another one.
The village falls under
Ladania police station area of Madhubani.
Jainagar police sub-division assistant SP Shaurya Suman on Sunday said that the three involved in violence were arrested by police by before Saturday midnight.
Suman said prime accused
Ramashish Yadav who is associated with a political party, is still evading arrest.
“It was Yadav who had instigated the villagers to attack the paramilitary forces and district police when they were leaving the booth after polling completed. In the past elections too, Yadav is accused of making same attempts,” he said.
Suman said Yadav was repeatedly gathering with several supporters who were gathered outside the booth.
“BSF personnel were not allowing them to do so. Even Ladania police station SHO reached at spot with force to clear the crowding. They main aim of Yadav and his supporters were to ensure polling for a particular political party at the booth as per their wish which did not happened,” he said.
ASP Suman said that Yadav and his supporters later gathered people from neighbouring villages too who together attacked security personnel and started pelting stones on them when they were going to leave booth after polling ended.
Suman said that an FIR was lodged with Ladania police station against ten persons including Yadav along with more than 100 other unknown villagers. “Investigation is going and police is trying to ascertain identity of all those who were involved in the violence to arrest them,” he added.
