Delhi: Fire department to continue its pollution fight after Diwali

Over 46 lakh litre water has been sprayed by Delhi Fire Services to combat air pollution in the capital in the past 23 days. The department has used 888 fire tenders to do this job.

NEW DELHI: Over 46 lakh litre water has been sprayed by Delhi Fire Services to combat air pollution in the capital in the past 23 days. The department has used 888 fire tenders to do this job.
A senior fire official said that post-Diwali, they would deploy more men to continue their fight to bring down the pollution level. With Diwali approaching, the fire department, along with the municipal corporations, will ensure that garbage fire calls are attended on priority.
From October 1 to November 10, 1,353 such calls have been received.
The department has been asked to spray water at 13 different hotspot areas from October 17. Since then, it has sprayed 46,99,500 litres of water. The hotspots are Jahangirpuri, Narela, Ashok Vihar, Vivek Vihar, Dwarka, Mundka, Rohini, Wazirpur, Okhla, Bawana, Anand Vihar, Punjabi Bagh and RK Puram. The water is sprayed for two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening.
