BERHAMPUR: Police on Monday arrested a 28-year-old youth from Berhampur for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl from Aska in Ganjam district on the pretext of marriage and for circulating her obscene photos through phone.
“The accused has been identified as Asish Nayak of Sashi Bhusan Nagara in Berhampur. The cell phone through which he had taken the objectionable photos of the girl has been seized,” PK Sahoo, inspector in-charge of Aska police station, said.
The police registered a case against Nayak on the basis of a complaint from the victim.
He has been booked under different sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
The police said the accused was related to the victim.
He was forwarded to court after recording the statement of the victim before the magistrate. Prior to that, a medical examination of both him and the complainant was conducted at the Aska hospital.
The teen said they indulged in a physical relationship in her house for several months, when her parents were away, despite her strong opposition to it. She alleged that he forced her into it and also took her photos during the period without her knowledge.
On her return from her brother’s place in Mumbai, where she had gone to undergo a treatment after being severely injured in an accident, the accused allegedly abused her and circulated her photos.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
