RANCHI: Soon after chief minister
Hemant Soren made an announcement revoking the
Chhath guidelines, opposition
BJP on Tuesday claimed moral victory but
Congress snubbed the saffron party, saying it was playing "
dirty politics" over
religious sentiments.
State BJP president Deepak Prakash said, “Public and religious sentiments were hurt by the ill-conceived
Chhath guidelines. BJP had decided to fight it tooth and nail, forcing the government to change its stand finally.
We will continue to fight against all other wrong policies of the Hemant Soren government in the interest of people.”
Earlier on Monday, BJP had termed the guidelines issued by the state disaster management department late on Sunday night as "Tughlaqi farmaan" and launched stirs demanding rollback of the norms.
Former chief minister Raghubar Das had also written to Soren demanding a tweak in the norms on the lines of the rules issued by the Bihar government.
Both ruling
JMM and Congress, which had also sought relaxations of the norms, welcomed Soren's announcement.
Congress’s co-working president Rajesh Thakur said, “A sensitive government led by Hemant Soren balanced safety and religious rituals. The party welcomes the move and appeals to people to be more vigilant to avoid the spread of the virus,” he said.
Another senior leader, Alok Dubey, added, “BJP resorted to dirty politics over festivals and religion, but like other festivals in the past, the government has taken a cautious approach this time, too.”
