7 arrested for killing 6 of family in Balangir

BHUBANESWAR: Seven persons were on Wednesday arrested in connection with the murder of six members of a family at Saharapada under the Patnagarh police station in Balangir.
Police said the motive behind the murder was previous enmity between the family of the deceased and another one of the same community in the village. The six members were found dead inside their house on November 11.
The arrested ones were identified by police as Babulal Jani, 55, Bhola Jani, 20, Siva Jani, 19, Chhaya Gond, 26, Baldev Gond, 27, Manish Gond, 24 and Bikal Kain, 20.Except the Gonds and Bikal, all are from Saharapada. The accused confessed to the crime.
The police said Babulal was the mastermind behind the killings. He, along with his sons, had hatched the plot to eliminate the Bulu Jani family. The police have seized three murder weapons, which include an axe of Bulu. The accused used Bulu’s weapon to kill him, his wife and four children.
