SAMBALPUR: Enraged over a lingering land dispute, one Rajib Kisan (30), of Gumkarma village in Sambalpur district set the tehsil office of Rengali on fire on Friday. He has been arrested.
Police said around two to three staffers were present in the tehsil office when the incident took place. Rajib came to the office in an auto-rickshaw at 10am with petrol in a container. He started pouring petrol on the premises and set the office afire, a staffer said.
The staff informed the fire brigade and police.
On his Facebook page, Rajib said, “My land was sold by other people using forged documents. How could someone else sell my property. I brought this matter to the notice of the administration several times. However, as no one paid any heed to my grievance, I was forced to take such a drastic step. My family has already been suffering owing to the delay.” Rengali tehsildar Sunil Meher, said, “Many articles and important papers were destroyed. But the record room is safe. The loss caused owing to the fire is yet to be assessed.”
