Northeast monsoon: Helplines launched in Madurai

MADURAI: The Madurai district administration on Tuesday announced helpline numbers for round the clock assistance during northeast monsoon.
These helpline numbers will function from an emergency control room at the collectorate.
The control room can be reached at the toll free helpline number 1077, landline number 0452-2546160 and WhatsApp number 9597176061. These are in addition to dedicated helpline numbers for areas under Madurai Corporation: 0452-2530521 and 0452-2530526 and WhatsApp number 8428425000.
Messages, photos and videos of those in distress can be shared on the WhatsApp numbers.The cases of emergency will be attended by response teams comprising inter-department officials. Public are requested to avoid forwarding unconfirmed messages as it would affect those in genuine distress getting help.
