Dams in Tenkasi to be opened for 125 days

Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday announced release of water from four reservoirs in Tenkasi District for 125 days from Thursday (November 26) to March 30, 2021.

MADURAI: Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday announced release of water from four reservoirs in Tenkasi District for 125 days from Thursday (November 26) to March 30, 2021.
The reservoirs to be opened are Gadana, Adavinainar Kovil, Ramanathi and Karupanadhi. According to a statement from the CM’s office the release is based on the request from farmers.
It will directly benefit 32,024.58 acres under cultivation through the channels from the reservoir.

Areas that would benefit include Tenkasi, Sengottai and Kadayanallur blocks in Tenkasi district and Ambasamudram and Cheranmahadevi blocks in Tirunelveli districts.
Quantity to be discharged will depend on the rainfall.
Adavinainar Kovil Dam where the water level is 104 feet water against the full reservoir capacity of 132.22 feet, four other reservoirs in Tenkasi district are either full and overflowing or remain close to the brim with only a couple of feet left to overflow.
The 36.1 feet tall Gundar Dam has been overflowing for more than a week till Tuesday. In Gadana Dam the level was 83 feet against the full reservoir capacity of 85 feet. The inflow and outflow was 175 cusecs, respectively. Ramanathi had 82 feet water against the full capacity of 84 feet with the inflow and outflow at 60 cusecs, respectively.
In Karupanadhi Dam the level stood at 68.96 feet against the full reservoir capacity of 72 feet.
