HAVERI: The annual
Kannada literary meet will be held from February 26 to 28 in
Haveri. This will be the 86th edition of the
Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana.
The decision to organise the event was taken by the chairman of the
Kannada Sahitya Parishat Central Committee on Tuesday in view of the declining
Covid-19 cases. The committee finalised the dates after discussions with home minister
Basavaraj Bommai, agriculture minister
BC Patil and local legislator Nehru Olekar.
All health-safety protocols will be strictly followed during the three-day event, said KSP president Manu Baligar.
The literary meet usually draws more than 1 lakh people. This year, the audience numbers may be limited because of the pandemic. “We hope to make it a successful event,” said Baligar.
KSP’s Haveri district unit president, Lingayya, said that the venue had not been finalised yet. “We are ready to make accommodation, food, and other arrangements for the participants,” he added.
The 85th edition was in
Kalaburagi in February this year. It was chaired by noted writer and poet
HS Venkatesh Murthy. Six resolutions were passed at an open session. Imparting education in Kannada medium at government and private schools, implementation of the special status for Kalyana Karnataka region and implementation of the DM Nanjundappa Committee’s report to remove regional imbalances were among them. The government has not fulfilled any of the demands yet.
