BHUBANESWAR: A day after a couple from Odisha's Nayagarh district attempted self-immolation outside the assembly premises in protest against police inaction over alleged abduction and murder of their 5-year-old daughter in July, the state government on Wednesday ordered crime branch probe into the minor killing case.
Minister of state for home, Dibyashankar Mishra gave a statement in the assembly regarding the crime branch probe in the wake of vehement protests by opposition BJP and Congress in the house on Tuesday.
Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro had asked Dibyashankar Mishra to issue a statement in the assembly on Wednesday.

"The Nayagarh police had registered a murder case and interrogated 34 suspects. Four persons had undergone polygraph test. Now, it has been decided to hand over the investigation to the state crime branch," Mishra said.
The opposition BJP and Congress are up in arms after the deceased's parents accused cabinet minister Arun Kumar Sahoo of shielding the accused. But, the minister of state, home, didn't tell anything on the alleged complicity of the cabinet minister.
“I had lodged a complaint with Nayagarh Sadar police on July 14 about disappearance of my daughter, who was playing alone outside our home. After some days, we were shattered to find her skeletal remains kept inside a bag near our village. DNA test of the skeletons confirmed about my daughter’s murder. But the police have so far not arrested anyone due to political pressure. Some of the accused are close associates of minister Arun Sahoo, who is our local (Nayagarh) MLA,” Ashok told media persons.
