KANPUR: Frequency of Metro train at Kanpur Metro rail stations would be around five minutes. If a passenger misses to board a Metro at a particular station, he would not have to wait for more than five minutes at the same station as another Metro will arrive by then.
In the first phase, the Metro will run between IIT and Motijheel which is a stretch of nine kilometers. The construction work is in progress between these two ends.
In the nine-km-stretch, a Metro station at each kilometre would be constructed. Thus, nine metro stations would be constructed.
Further, in the distance of nine kms, eight Metros will ply. Each Metro will have three coaches with a seating capacity for 950-1,000 people.
In the same context, on Wednesday divisional commissioner, Kanpur Division, Raj Shekhar reviewed the status of civil construction of the Kanpur Metro project. During the visit, he said, “Kanpur Metro will be the major identity of the city in the coming times. We are planning to conduct the trial run of Kanpur Metro in November next year and commercial run by December 2021 or January 2022. UPMRC is working on a war-footing with the objective of providing Metro services to the residents in stipulated time. Kanpur Metro is an ambitious project for the Central as well as the Uttar Pradesh governments.”
Shekhar also took stock of the arrangements made by the UP Metro Corporation to tackle the challenges of pollution and traffic. Senior officials of UPMRC informed him that with the objective of reducing pollution, two anti-smog guns have been deployed on the preparation yard between the casting yard and IIT to Motijheel, which keeps spraying water continuously in the air.
He was also informed that to control the dust blowing at the construction site (on the route of nine km of priority section), a team of 20 people were engaged in water-fogging with the help of eight tankers. He also also informed that the mechanised broomer sweeps the dust settled on the roads where the construction is in progress.
