Microsoft Teams rival Slack may be bought by Salesforce
Salesforce may buy Slack very soon as it wants to have a chat app for business users. As per a report by The Wall Street Journal, Salesforce.com is in “advanced talks” and may strike a deal to buy Slack within days. The report claimed that if the deal is successful this would be the largest acquisition that Salesforce has ever made. Slack’s valuation is over $17 billion.

Earlier this year, over 3.5 lakh IBM employees started using Slack and later announced that Slack will use Amazon’s cloud services “for storage, compute, database, security, analytics, machine learning, and future collaboration features”, staying away from Microsoft’s Azure or even Google Cloud.
Compared to Microsoft Teams, Slack’s voice and video conferencing hasn’t been that good. Slack recently moved its voice and video calling features to Amazon’s Chime platform in an attempt to improve on these two features. However, compared to Zoom or Microsoft Teams, Slack hasn’t been able to benefit much from the videoconferencing rush.
The reason Salesforce wants to buy Slack is that it sees the chat platform as “a logical extension of its enterprise offerings”. As per a report by Reuters, Salesforce would pay cash for the deal, rather than use its stock as currency.
Meanwhile, Salesforce said that it would set up a "local instance" in India this year as part of its efforts to provide solutions for hosting data in the country. Salesforce Senior VP and Country Leader India Sunil Jose told PTI during the Salesforce Live: India event, "We are committed to our customers in India. When we look at our conversations over the last 12 months, we have been talking about solutions of hosting data locally, and I am proud today to announce that we would have a local instance in India before the end of this year," Salesforce Senior VP and Country Leader India Sunil Jose said at the Salesforce Live: India event.
