PATNA: A newly-wed couple was robbed of cash, gold jewellery and other valuables by a group of miscreants near Sundarnagar on the busy Hajipur-Mahua road in Vaishali district, police said on Friday.
The miscreants, stated to be residents of Sundarnagar Patad village, waylaid the couple’s car around 9 am on Thursday and took away cash, gold ornaments and other valuables after threatening them with dire consequences.

The robbers didn’t spare the members of the wedding party who were travelling in a bus and allegedly looted some cash, wrist watches and other valuables from them. The bus was pelted with stones and its front glasses were smashed with bamboo sticks. The incident is said to be a fallout of an altercation between the members of the wedding party and some local residents during a cultural show late in the night on Wednesday. The residents were angry over delayed arrival of the ‘baarat’ from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. The wedding of the daughter of one Manoj Singh was solemnized at Sundarnagar Pratad village under Sarai police station. The wedding party reached late, leading to an altercation with some residents.
However, the dispute was sorted out with the help of some senior citizens. On Thursday morning, some youths intercepted the bus near Sundarnagar Chowk and thrashed the members of the marriage party. They were also forced to part with cash and other valuables. The bus left for its destination only after a complaint was lodged with the Sarai police station.
The bridegroom Dheeraj Kumar told the police that the miscreants also looted cash, jewellery and other valuables from him and his wife. “We were also threatened with dire consequences by the robbers who were in the age group of 20-30 years,” he told the police.
Vaishali SP Maneesh said that a complaint has been lodged with the Sarai police station against some named people, who were stated to be residents of the same village where the wedding ceremony was held. “An altercation took place between two groups of people during a cultural programme, which led to the incident in the next morning,” the SP said, adding that raids were on to nab the accused. Earlier, SHO of Sarai police station Sanjeev Kumar said that 15 people have been named as accused in the FIR. Indrajeet Kumar, Dharmendra Sah, Suraj and Aditya were among the named accused, who were absconding after the incident.
