1 lakh vaccinators to be deployed to administer Covid-19 vaccine in India
At least one lakh vaccinators are likely to be deployed to administer Covid-19 vaccines in the first phase to an estimated 30 crore people including frontline workers and health care staff across India in the first half of 2020.
Out of one lakh vaccinators, nearly 70,000 will come from India's established public vaccine immunisation programmes of the past while private sector hospitals may be asked to chip in with 30,000 doctors, nurses and lab technicians, reports our New Delhi correspondent quoting a senior official associated with the national expert committee on vaccine administration and distribution.
In fact, two apex business and industrial bodies like Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Confederation of Indian Industry have been approached to get in touch with corporate hospital chains to supply vaccinators, according to the official.
Usually, a well-trained vaccinator along with a facilitator can administer 20-25 shots per hour, the officials said.
The Indian government is planning to use an existing digital platform to train the new vaccinators to deal with Covid-19 pandemic effectively.
India's total number of Covid-19 cases moved close to 94 lakh mark with 41,810 new infections being reported in the last 24 hours while the death toll climbed to 1,36,696 with 496 new fatalities, according to Health Ministry data today.
