Santa Clara County, the home of the San Francisco 49ers, announced stringent new coronavirus measures Saturday, including a three-week ban on contact sports and a 14-day quarantine for anyone traveling into the county from a distance greater than 150 miles.
Those restrictions — intended to help curb a rise in coronavirus cases — leave the 49ers in search of a new home stadium to finish the season. And while a decision hasn’t yet been made, NFL Network reported that the team’s most likely option for its home games would be State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
The NFL Network reports another option would be a stadium in Texas. The league prefers San Francisco plays at an NFL stadium. The 49ers kick off Sunday at the Los Angeles Rams, but they’re set to play at home — wherever home might be — against the Bills and the Washington Football Team the next two weeks.
The 49ers said in a statement Saturday that they are “aware of the Santa Clara County Public Health Department’s emergency directive. We are working with the NFL and our partners on operational plans and will share details as they are confirmed.”
The county’s new measures are set to go into effect on Monday.
The practice setup is another consideration. The NFL Network reports San Francisco could practice in Arizona, staying in a hotel, or choose a location 150 miles away from Santa Clara County.
