Madurai woman, two daughters end their lives a few months after her husband's death
CHENNAI: A few months after her husband died of a health problem, a woman and her two daughters ended their lives by hanging in their house near Madurai on Saturday night.
Before ending their lives, the trio had poisoned their pet dog to death.
The deceased have been identified as A Valarmathi, 38, of Malaichamipuram near Othakadai, her daughters A Agila, 20, and Preethi, 17.
Valarmathi’s husband, Arun, was a building contractor. They had lived in Trichy before shifting to Madurai a few months ago.
Arun had developed a health problem and died in July. The family members could not accept his demise and had been suffering from depression, police said.
They said the trio had tried to end their lives by slitting their wrists. Then they hanged themselves from the ceiling of the house. The incident came to light on Monday morning when the neighbours went to check the family members.
On being alerted, a police team led by the Othakadai police inspector (in-charge) Parthiban reached the spot. The bodies were shifted to the Government Rajaji Hospital for post mortem.
After the death of Arun, his family members did not seem to have received any support from his parents and others, police said. In the suicide note, Valarmathi mentioned that the properties had been purchased using the money earned by Arun, and his family did not have right to claim them. In the suicide note, Valarmathi asked her mother to take over their properties and gold jewellery.
