He may be 33 but Lionel Messi's popularity endures across the Atlantic.

The Barcelona star, one of the greatest players to ever play the beautiful game, continues to be the face of the global game alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, his name still adorned on shirts from Shanghai to Seattle.

The American market is one that many clubs now target, the growth of the game of 'soccer' as our Transatlantic cousins increasing year on year, with US investors looking across the pond with more regularity for the potentially bountiful relationships to be had in the English game.

For Liverpool, with prominent US owners in Fenway Sports Group and close links with one of American sports' most storied franchises, the Boston Red Sox, appear well positioned to make the most of that relationship moving forward.

Pre-season tours to the US have been fairly commonplace for the Reds over the last decade and in any of the 50 states that make up the country you will most likely find an assemblage of Reds fans watching games together under the banner of an official supporters group.

The Reds are the current Premier League champions, have one of football's most recognisable managers in Jurgen Klopp and a bevy of some of the best players in world football.

But for US 'soccer' fans the appeal of the global superstar endures, even if Barcelona's reign as the kings of Europe hasn't.

Football apparel website Soccer.com revealed the most popular names to be sold on the back of shirts between October and November of this year, with Messi leading the way in 19 states.

But Messi has competition, and the biggest seller in another 19 states, was Chelsea's US star Christian Pulisic, the American international a hugely popular figure in his homeland.

Cristiano Ronaldo led the way in six states while there were somewhat curious inclusions for Leonardo Bonucci and Dele Alli in South Dakota and Vermont, respectively.

Manchester United had Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford lead the way in three states, with Rashford fifth on the overall list for shirt sales that Messi leads.

There was just one Liverpool player who led the way in a US state, with Sadio Mane proving a hit in Oregon.

Of the overall shirt sales it is Messi who has top spot, followed by Pulisic, Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe and Rashford.
