85-year-old arrested for raping minor in Odisha

KENDRAPADA: An 85-year-old man was arrested on Monday for raping a five-year-old girl inside his stationary shop in Kendrapada district on Sunday evening.
The accused was identified as Sunakar Patra, the survivor’s neighbour. After the minor girl informed her parents, her mother filed an FIR against the accused. She alleged that Patra lured her daughter by offering chocolates.
Acting on the FIR, police nabbed Patra on Monday.“Patra has confessed to the crime. The survivor was medically examined by the doctors of a government hospital in Aul,” said Salila Kumar Pradhan, IIC of Aul police station. The accused had also threatened the minor of dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.
“The accused was produced before the court of district judge in Kendrapada. The court has rejected his bail plea, Pradhan added.
