Allies put pressure on NDA over farm laws: Haryana MLA pulls out, JJP leader calls for ‘quick solution’

An independent MLA from Dadri constituency, Sangwan had extended support to the BJP-JJP government and was appointed as chairman of the board one and half months ago.

According to Sangwan, presidents of 30 khaps had gathered in Rohtak on Sunday to extend every type of support to the protesters. “Some have already started moving to Delhi borders and while others will go in coming days,” he said.

“I am totally against the three farm laws. The society and khaps are against these (laws)…the government says its (laws) a deal of profit while the farmers don’t see any benefit from them. The farmers don’t trust these laws). How can trust be restored? The situation is like, you offer ghee to somebody but who receives it doesn’t believe it’s ghee,” he had said.

Ajay Chautala, founder of Jannayak Janta Party, BJP’s ally in the Haryana government, said, “The Centre should consider the demands of farmers. A unanimous solution should be implemented quickly to put an end to farmers’ trouble. The central government should also consider including MSP into the Act.”

Chautala observed while the Centre, including by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, have assured the farmers on the issue of MSP, it should give it in writing.

“The Centre has invited farmers for talks and we want that there should be a solution to this at the earliest. We have requested those in the government that a solution to the farmers’ problems should be found,” Chautala said.

Earlier on Monday, another NDA ally, Rajasthan-based Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP), expressed its displeasure over the farm laws and said it would have to rethink its tie-up with the NDA unless the legislations are scrapped. In a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah Monday, RLP leader Hanuman Beniwal, MP from Nagaur, said in Hindi: “By drawing your attention to the farmer protests against the three bills, I would like to request you to immediately take action to withdraw these bills. The people who feed the country are agitating amid this extreme winter and the Covid-19 pandemic, which does not reflect well on the government.”

BJP’s long-time ally in Punjab Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has already quit the NDA fold shortly after the three farm Bills were passed by the Parliament.
