A BSF sub -inspector was killed on Tuesday in unprovoked firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
Identifying the deceased officer as Sub-Inspector Paotinsat Guite, an official BSF spokesperson said he was posted at a forward defence location in Rajouri sector.
The incident came on a day when the force is celebrating it’s 56th Raising Day.
He was killed during a conspicuous act of bravery in not only retaliating to enemy fire, but also saved the lives of many of his colleagues, the spokesperson said.
Inspector General of BSF for Jammu frontiers, N S Jamwal said SI Guite was a “gallant and sincere border man”.
The BSF retaliated strongly and effectively on Pakistan Army posts, the IG said, adding that the sacrifice of the Border man will not go in vain.
SI Guite will be cremated with full state honours in his native village, said a PRO for the BSF.
Guite is the fourth soldier to be killed in unprovoked ceasefire violations over the last week. Those killed include Subedar Swatantra Singh in Poonch and Naik Prem Bahadur Khatri and rifleman Sukhbir Singh both in Rajouri.
