In Short

  • India will take on Australia in the ODI series finale in Canberra on Wednesday
  • India are looking to avoid a 3-0 sweep after losing the first 2 ODIs
  • India are likely to test their bench strength in the dead rubber

India have had a horror start to their much-anticipated tour of Australia, conceding an unbeatable 2-0 in the three-match ODI series. Virat Kohli's men will battle to avoid a second successive ODI series sweep.

India were handed a 3-0 thrashing by New Zealand in New Zealand earlier this year and the Asian giants wouldn't want a repeat Down Under. However, Australia are yet to lose an international outing at the Manuka Oval in Canberra, which will host the ODI series finale on Wednesday.

India will look to make some changes and test their bench strength in the 3rd ODI, considering it's a long tour in Australia. While the batsmen are expected to retain their places, we might see a few changes in the bowling line-up.

India might opt to drop Navdeep Saini after the pacer's poor outing in the first two matches. Saini, who performed well for Royal Challengers Bangalore at IPL 2020, 83 and 70 (in 8 overs) in the first 2 ODIs. Pacer Shardul Thakur might get a look in Canberra.

On the other hand, the visitors might also look to rest Jasprit Bumrah or Mohammed Shami or both of them in the third ODI, considering their workloads in the lead-up to the much-anticipated Test series. Left-arm pacer T Natarjan, who impressed for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2020, might make his India debut if India opt to rest their premier pacers.

Also, Kuldeep Yadav, who has been warming the benches, might make it to the playing XI. It will be interesting to see if India look to use their two wrist-spinners in pairs or choose to retain Ravindra Jadeja in the XI.

On the other hand, Australia will miss David Warner who has been ruled out of the ODI series with a groin injury. Matthew Wade or D'Arcy Short who made the squad after Warner's injury is likely to make the playing XI.

It remains to be seen if Australia will give Pat Cummins another game as he has been rested for the T20I series.
