Brampton man facing 37 criminal charges, including human trafficking

A Brampton man is facing 37 criminal charges following a human trafficking investigation led by Cornwall Police Service with the assistance of Kingston Police and Ontario Provincial Police.

Alongside the Cornwall Police, members of the Provincial Human Trafficking Intelligence-Led Joint Forces Strategy, which includes an officer from Kingston Police, investigated the case. Cornwall Police allege in a news release that between August and November, Marvin Bryan, 41, trafficked a female victim procuring sex. During this time, the man assaulted her, pointed a firearm at her twice and made threats to harm her and her family, police said.

The charges have not been proven in court.

Police said that during their investigation, they learned that on Nov. 1, Bryan, along with Edward Ayoub, 43, of Ottawa and Candice O’Rourke, 30, of Cornwall, conspired to make the victim recant her statement from an ongoing investigation involving Bryan.

Ayoub and O’Rourke were arrested on Nov. 4.

Ayoub has been charged by police with obstructing justice, extortion, intimidation of a justice system participant, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, uttering threats and possession of property obtained by crime.

O’Rourke has been charged by police with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

Bryan was arrested without incident on Nov. 18 on the strength of multiple warrants by the Repeat Offenders Parole Enforcement unit, which includes members of Ontario Provincial Police and Kingston Police, Cornwall Police said. Bryan has been charged with trafficking a person, procuring, advertising sexual services, trafficking cocaine, receiving material benefit from trafficking a person, using a firearm while committing an office, pointing a firearm, assault, carrying a concealed weapon, breaching an undertaking, extortion while using a firearm, two counts each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and attempting to obstruct justice. He was also charged with three counts of intimidation of a justice system participant and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, four counts of breaching his prohibition order as well as eight counts of uttering threats.

Kingston Police Chief Antje McNeely spoke of the investigation at a special Police Board meeting on Monday. She said the local officer involved played an integral role in the investigation.
