SO INSTEAD OF HOSTING A LIVE EVENT, WE ARE GOING TO BE AIRING A VIRTUAL CEREMONY THIS SATURDAY, DECEMBER 5. >> IN ORLANDO, THE CITY IS REQUIRING EVENT HOSTS HAVE AN APPROVED SAFETY PLAN BEFORE ALLOWING THEM TO HOLD HOLIDAY EVENTS. ORLANDO WINTERFEST AND HOLIDAY MARKET IS SCHEDULED TO OPEN AT THE CONVENTION CENTER THURSDAY. FACE MASKS, TEMPERATURE CHECKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL ALL BE REQUIRE LAKE EOLA WILL ALSO LOOK A LITTLE DIFFERENT THIS YEAR. >> SO IF YOU TOOK A WALK AROUND THE LAKE, YOU WILL NOTI THOSE RED SIGNS OVER THERE THAT REMIND , INDIVIDUALS TO STAY 6 FE APART WASH YOUR HANDS, WEAR A , MASK. Holiday events are already getting underway in cities across Central Florida."Right after Thanksgiving is when we started our holiday festivities here in Winter Park,” Clarissa Howard with the City of Winter Park said.However, this year continues to be one unlike any other. “The tree lighting is going to be virtual this year. So instead of hosting a live event we are going to be airing a virtual ceremony this Saturday, Dec. 5," Kelly Allen with the City of Orlando said.In Orlando, the city is requiring event hosts have an approved safety plan before allowing them to hold holiday events.Orlando Winterfest and Holiday Market is scheduled to open at the convention center Thursday.Face masks, temperature checks and social distancing will all be required. Lake Eola will also look different. "If you took a walk around the lake you'll notice those red signs over there that remind individuals to stay six feet apart, wash your hands, wear a mask,” Allen said.In Winter Park, the city's annual Christmas parade will go on as scheduled Saturday but with modifications to the route, as well as the parade itself."There's a limited number of participants in the parade, normally it's about 100 and we're about 50% capacity on that,” Howard said.Still, some are worried events, even with precautions, pose a risk.Winter Park officials said they understand that worry and are doing everything they can to keep everyone safe while also continuing their holiday traditions."We do know the importance of that. The wonderful thing is that these events are outdoors,” Howard said.Officials in Winter Park and downtown Orlando both said they have seen a lot of enthusiasm from the public when it comes to hosting the holiday events. They say the big thing is to make sure that everyone who does participate, does so safely.
