MUMBAI: Two plots of land and a structure with depreciated value belonging to the fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim's family were auctioned for Rs 1.10 crore on Tuesday.
The auction was carried out by the competent authority under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (Safema). Only two bidders came forward, however, one of them withdrew due to some technical reasons.
For the second consecutive time, no bidder showed interest in buying a Santacruz flat worth Rs 3.45 crore belonging to the late drug lord Iqbal Mirchi.
The Dawood Ibrahim relatives' properties were bought by one Ravi Kate, a Ratnagiri resident. One of the three properties have a non-operational fuel station, registered in the name of Dawood’s late sister, Haseena Parkar.
The three properties of the Dawood family together had reserve price of Rs 1.09 crore. Kate had deposited Rs 27.5 lakh as earnest money.
The properties, located at Lote village in Khed, comprise 30 gunthas of a land parcel worth Rs 28.6 lakh, a 50-guntha plot worth Rs 47.6 lakh and another structure with a depreciated value of Rs 32.8 lakh. One of the two plots was listed for auction on November 10, but it could not be brought under the hammer as the Safema authorities cited ‘technical reasons’ and postponed the auction.
On November 10, two Delhi-based lawyers bought six properties that were in the names of Dawood’s mother Amina Bi and Haseena Parker. The ministry of finance (department of revenue) had fetched over Rs 22.8 lakh from the six properties, including Rs 11 lakh from the sale of Dawood’s ancestral home in Mumbake village, Khed.

The Safema also wanted to auction a 1,245 sq ft flat in Milton Apartments on Juhu Tara Road in Santacruz (W) allegedly belonging to Mirchi. However no buyer came forward to buy it. This was second time that no buyer to buy it.
Another property, a 1,550 sq ft flat in Silver Arch building at Oshiwara, Andheri (W), again brought under auction list for the same reserve price of Rs3.22 crore.
However, no buyer came forward to buy it. The flat, registered in the name of Yamini Bhagwanji, was seized by Safema authorities in a customs case.
Yet another property put up for auction was a 51.12 sq mt flat at Wimbledon II CHS on Four Bungalows road in Andheri (west) with a reserve price of Rs 95.18 lakh. No buyer showed interest to buy it.
There was no physical presence of bidder(s) due to the pandemic and the auction was carried out through video conferencing, under the supervision of Hari Govid Singh, the competent authority for Safema and R N D’Souza, additional commissioner, Safema.
