A 19-year-old with no underlying health conditions has died of coronavirus

NHS England has announced that a 19-year-old with no underlying health conditions has died of coronavirus.

No further details have been released about the patient, other than they did not have a pre-existing medical issue prior to their death.

NHS England said a further 372 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 41,310, NHS England said on Wednesday.

Patients were aged between 19 and 103. All except 17, aged between 19 and 93, had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths were between April 7 and December 1.

Fourteen other deaths were reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.

The UK-wide figures will be released later this afternoon.

Separately, Scotland recorded 38 new coronavirus deaths and 951 new cases in the last 24 hours, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed.

The death toll under this measure – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – is now 3,797.

Speaking at the Scottish government’s coronavirus briefing, the First Minister said the daily test positivity rate is 4.5 per cent, down from 7.3 per cent on Tuesday.

A total of 96,762 people have tested positive in Scotland, up from 95,811 the previous day.

There are 991 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus, a fall of 30 in 24 hours.

Of these patients, 68 are in intensive care, down by two.

In Wales, there have been a further 1,480 cases of coronavirus in Wales, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 82,489.

Public Health Wales reported another 51 deaths, taking the total in Wales since the start of the pandemic to 2,614.
