Robertson hits back at disharmony claims

Andy Robertson has hit back at claims that Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and the other attacking players in the Liverpool squad have a fractious relationship.

“The relationship [between the front players] off the pitch is really strong, and on the pitch, the link-up play and everything is always good,” he told the ECHO around the launch of his AR26 charity.

“But these players are also paid to be selfish and we need them to score goals and take risks in the final third, and we add [Diogo] Jota into that category now. When they are in front of goal, we expect them to shoot and score.

“There have been certain occasions where people say Bobby could have passed, Sadio could have passed, or Mo could have passed, but these guys are paid money to make split-second decisions and score goals for us.

“The three, plus Diogo, are incredible players and they have all showed that since they have come to the club at the highest level.

“The best thing for Liverpool fans is that they are still improving and they are getting better year on year. There is still more to come from them.

“They are fantastic to play with and when I look up, I’m never short of options. It is a pleasure to play with all of them.

“Their relationship is really strong just like every other relationship in the squad and that is why over the last couple of years we have been quite successful.

“You get nowhere without these relationships.”

Who Liverpool could face in Champions League knockout stages

Liverpool secured their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League with Tuesday night’s 1-0 win over Ajax.

They also secured top spot of the group, and that narrows down who they could be drawn against in the Round of 16.

Liverpool cannot face an English team. They also cannot face the second-place qualifier from their own group.

That narrows down the likely teams Liverpool could face. The toughest of these include Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain, all of which could finish second in their respective groups.

What Adrian said to Caoimhin Kelleher

Adrian was a surprise omission from the Liverpool starting XI in Tuesday’s win over Ajax.

The former West Ham United shot-stopper had been Alisson’s back-up, featuring in the domestic and international cup competitions when fit and available.

However, despite being available for selection, Jurgen Klopp started Caoimhin Kelleher instead.

The 22-year-old responded with a brilliant performance, keeping a clean sheet in the process. Afterwards, he revealed what Adrian told him before kick-off.

“I didn't see Ali yesterday (Monday) because I think he was gone, but I got a text before the game just to tell me good luck,” he said.

“Adrian was a really great support. He told me, 'I'm with you 100% and supporting you no matter what'. To get that from him was really kind of him.”
