Moradabad’s Kanth among 10 best performing police stations in India

LUCKNOW: The Kanth police station of Moradabad was ranked eighth on the list of 10 best performing police stations for 2020 among over 16,000 police stations across the country, the Union home ministry announced on Thursday.
Nongpok Sekmai in Manipur’s Thoubal district has been selected as the best performing police station in the country, followed by AWPS-Suramangalam in Salem city in Tamil Nadu and Kharsang in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The selection is done in accordance with the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued during a conference in Kutch in 2015 to set parameters for grading police stations and assessing their performance based on feedback, officials said.
SSP Moradabad, Prabhakar Chaudhary told TOI that Kanth police station has set an example of how optimum results can be achieved even with limited resources. “IG Moradabad range Ramit Sharma also visited the police station and announced a cash reward for the core police team,” he said. The SSP said that police team of Kanth shares a good rapport with the people and its rate of redressal is also satisfactory. He added that government’s assistance in technical reforms and giving adequate resources and logistic support has been instrumental in the police station making a spot in the top 10. A senior officer at the DGP headquarters said that there are 19 parameters of awarding a rank to police stations, some of which include: action in property offences, crime against women, crime against weaker sections, action in cases pertaining to missing persons, unidentified found person and unidentified bodies.
The officers said that the efforts of the government had made it possible for Gudumba police station to get third rank in 2018, in a similar review done by the ministry of home affairs.
Cabinet minister Siddharth Nath Singh said that a positive change in the police system is the policy of continuous improvement and self-review by the Yogi government. The UP Police has emerged as one of the most capable police in the country. The Yogi government has allowed the police to work without coercion. Officers said that crime control, law and order along with good conduct of policemen in the state have been top priorities of chief minister Yogi Adityanath since he assumed office in 2017.
