High street retailer Marks and Spencer is giving its loyal customers the chance to beat lockdown queues.

The handy new service - branded 'Book and Shop' - has been launched by M&S stores up and down the country.

It comes as non-essential retailers were given the green light to start operating again by the government after the end of the lockdown.

Despite being in tier 3, Birmingham's shops are now back open, with shoppers in the city centre from December 2 as lockdown ended.

Thanks to the new M&S scheme, customers can now reserve a slot to browse their local store.

Customers will be able to book a slot online, and therefore skip any queue that might have formed to get into their local branch.

Only two people will be admitted per slot booked, and this includes children.

Shoppers can snap up shops every hour and every half four, but only at 566 stores.

The service will be available across hundreds of Food Hall stores - so if you have a large store in your area, you're likely set to benefit.

Once inside, the time shoppers can spend browsing and purchasing items is not restricted.

Helen Milford, M&S Stores Director, said: “With winter ahead, we know customers are increasingly concerned about queuing, so in response, we wanted to deliver a quick, digital solution to help them shop.

“Designed by our in-house tech teams – Book and Shop does just that, helping Sparks’ customers guarantee a slot at a time that suits them and removing the need to queue should there be one."

M&S operates stores across Birmingham.
