Your Weekend Planner Dec 4: Diljit vs Kangana on Twitter, Nolan drops Tenet
Twitter to Tenet, what are people talking about?

Dear Reader,

Has a week even gone by without a (new) fight on Twitter? Yes, 2020 is bad, but 2020 Twitter is probably worse. In the newest fight from Twitterverse, we have Twitter Manikarnika Kangana Ranaut now locking horns with Punjab da Munda Diljit Dosanjh. What happened next is hilarious, distasteful and unreal, all at the same time. Here's your lowdown on who said what (with translations of Diljit's Punjabi and Kangana's Hindi) in the fight that kept Desi Twitter entertained all of Thursday.

Now, in real life, Christopher Nolan has come back to the theatres. His latest big-screen offering is Tenet. It is a classic Nolan film (which probably means it is more complicated than even 2020, but we're gonna watch it again, as will you). More on that here.

From the bookshelf we have a book that resonates perfectly with this year; this slice of dystopia that all of us find ourselves in 2020: Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. But there's also some food for the soul (and heart and stomach), a warm bowl of Chicken Thukpa. It's December after all. And if you're also worried that 2020 will be over before you got to go on a trip, we have a list of places in India where you can see the snowfall this month and the next; but do go through the Covid-safety protocols before you head out.

If you're planning to stay in over the weekend, there are a lot of shows and movies on OTT. Abhishek Bachchan is on Amazon Prime Video with a sports documentary, Sons of the Soil; Swara Bhasker's Bhaag Beanie Bhaag is on Netflix. Oh, and by the way, Netflix is free this weekend, so you can watch that series you always wanted to but never really felt the urge to spend money on a Netflix subscription (also, if your friend changed their Netflix password).

That's all. Have a great weekend.

Here's your Weekend Planner.

WHAT'S TRENDING?

11 done. One more to go. Remember that before you celebrate the end of November because December “abhi baaki hai,” as Smriti Irani said in her Instagram post and shared a Minion meme to remind you about it.

Tamil Nadu will agree with Smriti Irani because, after Cyclone Nivar, the southern state has been experiencing heavy rainfall due to Cyclone Burevi. Though the impact of the latter is considerably less.

From South to far North, in Delhi, farmers are protesting over the three new farm bills enacted into law by the central government. Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab and Haryana are now camping at Delhi's borders and threatening to blockade the national capital if their demands are not met.

There’s traffic across Delhi as well due to the protests but if you are willing to let that pass and still go for a short trip that you were postponing for quite long, here’s a list of places that you can choose from. Not only can you enjoy a hot cup of chai by the hills, but also make a snowman in the mountains. Isn’t that a great idea?

On that note, do you know how people are celebrating Christmas in Belgium? In the European country, Belgians can invite-only four people for a Christmas party but only one of the guests can use the washroom. Okay, then.

Such rules, in all honesty, are mandatory in the wake of the novel coronavirus crisis since cases are on the rise in several parts of the world. India, meanwhile, has recorded over 95 lakh coronavirus cases.

For the time being, head to the next section for a serious dose of good vibes and positivity.

SOMETHING TO MAKE YOU SMILE

“We don’t deserve dogs,” is what most pet parents will tell you. True that. This elderly man knows the value that his furry friend adds to his life. Hence, he gave him a ride on the merry-go-round. You must watch this adorable video.

Wildlife video lovers will enjoy this clip of a baby elephant playing with a zebra. The viral video also has an important message that you should not miss.

We will end this section with Harsh Goenka’s viral post on Twitter in which he shared a “good” to-do list that will help you to maintain a positive outlook towards life.

DON'T STOP WORKING OUT

Your weekly motivation to hit the grind and work out is here, and it comes directly from your favourite Bollywood celebs in town. Malaika Arora began her week with another yoga pose and it will help you maintain a good posture, as it stretches the front as well as your back muscles. This week’s yoga asana was Dhanurasana and she even shared tips to do it properly.

Milind Soman and Ankita Konwar, our favourite fitness enthusiast couple, added a twist to their workout routines this week as they trekked to Sandakphu, the highest peak in West Bengal. While Milind did Superman clap push-ups, Ankita did the Chakrasana or the Wheel pose at 12000 feet, in the backdrop of a picturesque location in Sandakphu.

So, what’s stopping you?

KHAANE MEIN KYA HAI?

Winters are here and that means weekends are all about bundling up in our warm blankets, with some warm soup and a good book. While our book recommendation has you sorted for this week, we also have a special recipe that will warm you up in no time.

Food for the soul (Image: Pixabay)

If you are a big fan of soupy noodles, then this weekend cook Chicken Thukpa for yourself. To make this delish and easy dish, you will need 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, 200 gm chicken thighs, 1/2 stalk coriander leaves, 1 teaspoon ginger, 1 pinch of powdered asafoetida, 3 cup chicken stock, 150 gm rice noodles, water as required, 2 cloves garlic and 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder.

Start by making a spice paste for the soup. Blend garlic, ginger, cumin powder and asafoetida in a blender. Then, heat oil in a large pan over medium flame and add the spice paste to it and stir for 4-5 minutes.

Pour chicken stock in the pan and bring to boil over low flame for 10-15 minutes. Then, add chicken thighs and simmer for 10-15 minutes again over low flame. Remove the chicken thighs and shred them. In a separate bowl, add boiled rice noodles and top it up with the shredded chicken and pour the spicy stock over it. And enjoy!

FROM THE BOOKSHELF

The year 2020 made us face the most unprecedented circumstances. We were trapped in our homes and a sense of doom loomed large above our heads. Margaret Atwood's novel The Handmaid’s Tale exudes a similar kind of doom, a sense of being trapped in a system with no outlet.

Margaret Atwood's novel The Handmaid’s Tale

The dystopian novel is set in a near-future when rightwing fundamentalists take over the USA and make women the property of the state who are forced to reproduce babies for the elite state men. It is set in a patriarchal, totalitarian state known as Gilead. It follows the story of June who tried to escape with her husband and kid but was caught and made a handmaid. June is determined to get off of this awful world and find her daughter.

FASHION KA JALWA

This week on Fashion Friday, since the release of Coolie No 1 is the talk of the town, we decided to take a look at its leading lady, Sara Ali Khan's style evolution in the industry. From breezy cotton kurtas and heavily embroidered ensembles to quirky dresses and athleisure outfits, Sara has managed to make a name for herself in the industry with her accessible fashion choices. And her mantra? Keep it simple and quirky. We're taking notes.

AT THE MOVIES

Christopher Nolan fans in India, over the last week, have battled a dilemma - to watch Tenet in theatres or not. We are going with the former. After much deliberation and back-and-forth, the Robert Pattinson and Dimple Kapadia-starrer is releasing in theatres today, December 4, and we were right there, watching it unfold before us, on the big screen, socially distant, of course. But we understand that you're still in two minds - so here's our Tenet review. Read on.

So while Bollywood's love affair with the Maldives continues, it is business as usual when it comes to upcoming films. Ajay Devgn has roped in Rakul Preet Singh and Angira Dhar for his directorial venture, Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby Deol just announced Apne 2, this time with third-generation Deol, Karan, and Prabhas is teaming up with KGF director Prashanth Neel for Salaar. Looks like the next two years will more than compensate for the lull that 2020 brought.

And with all these new movies coming up, shouldn't there be a new Film City in the making too? So Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met Akshay Kumar and other Bollywood producers to invite them to invest in the upcoming Film city in Noida, Delhi. Yup, that too happened this very week in Mumbai.

But until that happens, here's looking at our weekly features. For Monday Masala, we analysed why the entry of the likes of Kashmera Shah and Rakhi Sawant could add the much-needed masala to the otherwise bland Bigg Boss 14. On Tuesday Trivia, we learnt that Irrfan was signed as the male lead in Vidya Balan’s Kahaani 2. Wahiyat Wednesday went to Sunny Leone's Tera Intezaar, where we simply kept waiting for a story. Any story. And on Throwback Thursday, we revisited JP Dutta's magnum opus, Border, on the 49th anniversary of the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War.

Okay, 'nuf about movies. Now off to OTT, will you.
