Tamil Nadu CM's effigy burnt in Virudhunagar over Deivendrakula Vellar statement
AIADMK cadres, who came to know of the Vellalar Munnetra Kazhagam member's move to burn the effigy, protested and tried to enter the private marriage hall where the detained persons were kept.
MADURAI: Members of the Vellalar Munnetra Kazhagam were arrested in Virudhunagar for burning the effigy of chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, opposing his statement that seven communities would be brought under the Deivendrakula Vellar community.
Members of the AIADMK staged a protest in front of the marriage hall where the arrested men were detained, Saturday.
The chief minister said, the state government had recommended the inclusion of seven castes under the common category of Deivendrakula Vellar community, following a review meeting in Sivaganga, Friday.

AIADMK cadres, who came to know of the Vellalar Munnetra Kazhagam member's move to burn the effigy, protested and tried to enter the private marriage hall where the detained persons were kept.
They sat in front of the marriage hall and also resorted to quarreling with the police officials who came to the spot, demanding the detainees be kept in judicial custody for 15 days.
Similarly, members of the Vathiriyar community, protested against the CM's statement by blocking the Vilathikulam- Madurai road, Tuticorin. Police and revenue officials held talks with them following which they gave up the protests.
